ADSL on its last legs in South Africa

By   Daniel Puchert Partially state-owned telecommunications company Telkom announced in its financial results for the year ending 31 March 2025 that its ADSL subscribers had more than halved to under 30,000. According to the company’s operational data, ADSL lines decreased from 64,959 in March 2024 to 29,770. This 54.2% decline highlights that the legacy broadband technology is slowly approaching the end of the road. Telkom’s ADSL business peaked at the end of March 2016 with 1.01 million subscribers — two years after fibre upstart Vumatel  broke ground in Parkhurst . What followed was a sharp decline in Telkom ADSL subscribers. Customers connected to its copper networks decreased by more than 500,000 over the next four years. This was partly driven by Telkom itself, which began actively switching off its copper network in some neighbourhoods. If it did not have fibre in the area, it would offer a “fixed line lookalike” wireless service that ran over its cellular ...

Kids being dumped by their mothers

Recently the issue of women who are dumping their infants is increasing. This week alone l have seen one story in the newspaper of a beautiful child, four months old was left on the rocks by the mother.Following up the story, the mother said she had nothing to feed the babe for the past three days so she felt it the only option to dump him.

The following day a woman left her child in Pretoria Central at Sammy Marks Square. The child approximately one year was left with coca cola in her hands, a bag of  clothes on the side and just sitting alone. It may have been happening that the mother was looking from a distance to see who is gonna take the child. The issue again being support.

As adults and knowing that the cost of living is getting high, we need to address this issue seriously. The government has to introduce the lessons at school level to teach people about the hardships of  life. Birth control ways and teach children about abstaining from sex when still unmarried etc.  Further more if a parent realizes that its difficult to look after the child, please be advised that its better to go to orphanage homes and surrender the babe. They are people who can look after the children.

Lets help each other to make the world a better place for you and for me. Man must support their children its not only the mother's problem because the two had to come together to produce these children. Think about it if your mother had done that to you what would have happened to you?. God loves us for he has given us the world around us, lets spread love, harmony and the teachings of God.

Catch up with other updates on these stories, the world around us.
