ADSL on its last legs in South Africa

By   Daniel Puchert Partially state-owned telecommunications company Telkom announced in its financial results for the year ending 31 March 2025 that its ADSL subscribers had more than halved to under 30,000. According to the company’s operational data, ADSL lines decreased from 64,959 in March 2024 to 29,770. This 54.2% decline highlights that the legacy broadband technology is slowly approaching the end of the road. Telkom’s ADSL business peaked at the end of March 2016 with 1.01 million subscribers — two years after fibre upstart Vumatel  broke ground in Parkhurst . What followed was a sharp decline in Telkom ADSL subscribers. Customers connected to its copper networks decreased by more than 500,000 over the next four years. This was partly driven by Telkom itself, which began actively switching off its copper network in some neighbourhoods. If it did not have fibre in the area, it would offer a “fixed line lookalike” wireless service that ran over its cellular ...

The dramatic divorce story

Some times when couples are divorcing it’s so difficult to think that these two were married and living happily as a family. It is also quite not easy to divorce l think, but circumstances, purpose and expectations in a marriage will led to these situations. Likewise all man and woman would not expect to be in a relationship where by one  is cheating. This poses a risk of the killer diseases which have taken many people’s lives. If a situation is like that then all the trust will be lost hence leading to a break up in family.
Divorces are just not good things to experience or witness. It’s a break up that affects people’s lives. The children and parents. Recently a classic situation happened in Mpumalanga’ city of Nelspruit. A couple has been married for 6 years and living happily with their 2 children. They was trust in the family until an incident occurred that has exposed the husband’s cheating to the wife. The wife stays at home while the husband goes to work.
The man had a student girlfriend who was studying in Gauteng Johannesburg. She was also from Nelspruit city. One weekend the girl came on a weekend from the university so the man had to create a job meeting at home. He told his wife that he is going for a meeting in Hezyview, which is a tourist resort area. It’s about 120 km away from the home town so he was going to be back on Monday. The wife believed him as usual because it was a work meeting.
Having done this, the man wan his step one to make sure he is free for the student girl. Whatever they did that weekend, no one knows. On Monday morning the woman woke up early to cater for children who were going to school. She decided to watch the traffic report on TV. Net star when reporting traffic news they take random sections of traffic from aerial view in a helicopter. These are live recordings.
The woman saw her husband’s car number plate on the traffic light which was under the helicopter’s view. It was the exact MP number plate. She was so surprised because this car was in Gauteng Province and all along she expects the husband to be in Mpumalanga province. Likewise she did not hurry to call the husband and ask if it was real what she had seen. Instead she decided to find out from his work when, the meeting in Hezyview is going to be finished.
The people who he works with were all surprised because they was not such a meeting. The issue sparked an eye opener to the woman, she had clear evidence that a meeting was a fabrication, the man was in Gauteng province instead of being in Mpumalanga.  All she had to find out was what was happening exactly, where was the man. She put her facts on the table, and prove the man wrong. In this case the man orchestrated the divorce in the family.  He broke the rules of the trust that he had built.
This family is at the brink of collapsing as l am writing this article. The husband was confronted and accepted that he had a student girlfriend who is studying in Johannesburg. He accepted that the car which the woman saw on traffic report was truly his.  In this care it’s a divorce because of cheating. It’s a pity that children won’t understand what ‘s happening between their parents. The woman may want to be strong, but like l said, the times we are in, diseases like HIV, stress can come this way.
They is no proof that this man only takes one girl, they may be so many while the wife is sitting at home.  The situation is so tough that God is needed to heal these people. If they are to stay together again like before,  it will take time for the trust which was there to be regained. That wife may start on her side because she will be confused.  Nowadays you can refer people to the church for canceling but after that they go back to their old ways of behavior.  The most important issue according me  is to fear God and have self respect. Accept what you have and build on it.
