My recent visit to Zimbabwe
The journey was well planned and it took us less than 10 hours to reach our destination from Pretoria South Africa to Mvuma central Zimbabwe. A lot of construction is happening on the roads. Harare to Masvingo Highway is complete and the remaining part which was left between Beitbridge and Masvingo is being completed. Surely by December it should be done. Though there is a lot of money being miss used, there are elements of success. Harare to Beitbridge road was a death trap, the road had so many potholes, had no shoulder no fencing to protect animals from entering the road and some parts even worn out that left it narrow in a way that two trucks cannot pass without one having to go out of the road.
Those improvements form part of the new Government's transformation policy. There is job creation and slowly improving the standards which has been declining for more that 20 to 30 years. Surely Rome was not built over night. At the border you can see significant changes which makes the country more efficient in terms of goods and human movements. Newly introduced electronic passport scanning system makes it even faster for travelers. Categorization of different sections within the border is a big plus. Truckers on their own, busses on their own, small vehicle travelers on their own as well as pedestrians. We still have an influx of Zimbabweans going the South African direction but l foresee a change in the near future.
The Zimbabwean economy is not yet well giving for an ordinary person who doesn't have starting capital but l have came to realize that if one can find means to compete in the current market situation, life can be better. Hard as it is and ignoring the political atmosphere there is a glimpse of hope for success without government aid. One would need a spirit of fighting hard to earn a better life though the politically connected are living lavishly. That's an African Feno minor. What l find striking is that the greater population is attracted by life in the cities and towns which is to me not a wise idea. Wealth lies in the soil. If one can start from there and seek for the market in the cities and towns definitely their products will move and they generate revenue.
These days you can bring your City life in the rural areas and live peacefully. Sink boreholes and provide water systems in the house. Construct septic tanks for your ablution, invest in a massive Soler system for electricity, fit your surveillance system and subscribe to Starlink for internet. In my case I am in the information and technology field l always work from home. I have found it viable, I can do my own projects separate from the IT work hence creating more streams of income. In this day and age one source of income is not sufficient. I realized that peri-urban areas are more ideal because the markets are close.
More news feeds are coming from me Joseph Vhudzijena Blog owner & editor. African improvements, We need to champion our own success regardless of current hush political and business atmosphere. .
